Fuel System Flashcards
What is the function of the Fuel System?
Store fuel and deliver it to the combustion chamber
Whare are the main stages of the fuel system operation?
- Fuel tank stores fuel
- Fuel pump draws fuel from the tank and pushes it through the fuel lines to engine
- Fuel filter removes contaminants from fuel
- Fuel injectors precisely deliver the fuel into the combustion chamber
- ECU regulates air-fuel ratio for optimal combustion
What are the differences between Indirect and Direct Injection?
Indirect Injection:
- Mostly used in petrol engines
- Fuel is injected into the intake manifold before entering combustion chamber
Direct Injection:
- Common in Diesel and Petrol engines
- Fuel is directly into the combustion chamber
How do fuel injectors operate in diesel and petrol engines?
Diesel:
- Requires higher pressure to reduce diesel into a mist before injecting it into the combustion chamber
Petrol:
- Focuses more on fuel distribution and mixture for smoother combustion
