Fuel System Flashcards
What is the order of priority for the fuel feed?
Fuel fed from the centre tank first, then the No1 and 2 tanks.
How many fuel pumps are there per tank and how are they powered?
2 electric pumps per tank
How are the pumps cooled and lubricated?
By fuel
Do the main tank or centre tank pumps operate at the higher pressure?
Centre tank pumps operate at higher pressure so that fuel is drawn from the centre tank before the main tanks
What do the individual pressure sensors do?
Monitor pressure output from each pump. Each centre tank pump will automatically shut off if low pressure is detected.
When may the low pressure lights flicker?
When fuel quantity is low and the aircraft is not in a level nose attitude
With low main tank pressure, how can fuel be supplied to the engine?
Fuel can be suction fed directly from the tanks. This bypass the electric pumps
What will happen if fuel is being suction fed during a climb?
Air pressure decreases resulting in dissolved air being released to the tank. This can cause fuel interruptions in the suction feed line leading to diminished thrust output or flameout
What are the main tank bypass valves also used for?
Suction defuelling
How long does it take for dissolved air in the suction feed line to dissipate?
Dependant on altitude, fuel temperature and fuel type
What powers the crossfeed valve?
DC battery bus
Where are the Spar fuel SOVs located and where are they powered from?
engine mounted wing stations, powered by DC hot battery bus
Where are the engine fuel SOVs powered from?
DC battery bus
How can the fuel SOVs be both closed?
Pulling the engine fire switches, engine start lever to cutoff
When do the centre tank fuel scavenge jet pumps activate?
Main tank No 1 FWD switch is ON and,
QTY is 1/2
