FUEL / FUEL POLICY Flashcards
(25 cards)
- What is the max fuel imbalance for taxi, take-off and landing?
- Why would a fuel imbalance be a potential problem?
- 3000 lbs if total main tank is over 55’000 kg
4500 lbs if total main tank is less than 41’000 kg
- Because of the required lateral trim required will cause increased drag and fuel consumption
- The loads on the underweight wing will be more transferred through the root - in effect the airload on the light wing is having to help support the heavier wing, and that means loads transferring through the wing root which are higher than normal. Hence a possible fatigue effect.
What fuel is the “fuel required” when in the air?
- Trip to destination + alternate fuel + reserve fuel
or - Enough to make to an ERA
or - Enough to destination with in-flight fuel reduction
When doing if-flight fuel reduction, do you use the FMC figures or the flightplan figures?
FMC figures
What is “Rec Extra fuel” and when is it to be loaded?
- Known or suspected WX avoidance
- Enroute ATC constraints
- Destination holding delays
What is the minimum total amount that
Contingency, Mandatory and Rec Extra has to be?
1’500 kg or more
What is the minimun total amount that
Alternate, Mandatory and Rec Extra has to be?
Has to be more than Reserve Fuel, to ensure approximately 1h of fuel on arrival
How much fuel will be left in the main tanks after fuel jettison?
5’200 kg per main tank
What is the maximum fuel you can have in the center tank with the wing tanks less than full?
1360kg
Which fuels are not to be used for the B777?
JP4 and Jet B
What is the minimum fuel you can depart with?
Trip+Mandatory+Altn+Reserves
What actions could you do if you get FUEL QTY LOW?
- Crossfeed to ensure that fuel is available to both engines incase the low tank empties
- Fuel pumps ON, to ensure all available fuel is used
When will FUEL QTY LOW appear? When will it disappear?
Appears at 2041 kg and disappears at 2200 kg
Can a Captain decide to take CAT C fuel?
Yes, but he needs approval from line ops
For in-flight fuel reduction, do you need two available runways after you started descent?
No, that is only before starting descent
What is contingency fuel used for?
- Errors in forecast winds
- Altitude restrictions
- Minor route changes due ATC
- Extended taxi times
- Departure/arrival delays
How much of the Contingency fuel would you expect to burn during a flight?
Contingency fuel in tons x Ramp correction
When would you use a low or high Cost Index?
- Low: Maximum range. When low on fuel
- High: To garuantee an arrival before a curfew
What is the definition of COST INDEX?
Cost of TIME divided by cost if FUEL
What part of the flight is”OVERBURN” calculated from?
TOC to 150 nm from touchdown
What does “HOLDING FUEL” refer to in the fuel efficiency section in theFlight Folder?
Fuel from the last 150nm to touchdown
Define MANDATORY/ADDITIONAL FUEL
- At all times, when having a eng fail or depress, we must be able to divert to nearest suitable airport. If planned fuel is insufficient for that, mandatory/additional fuel is added
- Additional fuel to ensure that at all times during the flight there is enough fuel to:
- Fly to nearest suitable
- Hold for 30 min at 1500ft AAL
- Make an approach and land (500 kg)
If you are over the North Pole and fuel looks like it’s below what you need. What can you do?
- Try to get directs
- Plan to land at ERA
- Use In-flight fuel reduction
- Set Cost Index to zero
How far out from an airport would you consider using In-flght fuel reduction and why?
About 2h
Reason is so that you have a valid METAR
What fuel burn would you use to do a gross error check on the CFP?
8 tons/h for the -300ER
