Fuel Flashcards
Which fuel pump PRESS lights are extinguished when the associated pumps are selected OFF?
OJ pumps Centre tank plus Main 2 and 3.
FCOM 1 28.20.1
When does Nitrogen Generating System (NGS) stop operating?
- During engine out operation, or
- if the equipment cooling selector is in OVED, or
- if the right bleed air duct is isolated, or
- if a Cargo Fire Arm Switch is ARMED
FCOM 1 28.20.1
What temperature level causes fuel temp indication to turn Amber and where is it displayed?
When fuel temperature is at or below the fuel freeze temperature entered on the PERF INIT page or -37 degrees if temperature not entered.
Indicated on primary EICAS.
FCOM 1 28.20.1
Is it possible to empty all the fuel tanks using fuel jettison operation?
No, only down to standpipe.
FCOM 1 28.20.11
What are the differences between Override/Jettison Pumps and Main Boost pumps?
- Higher output pressure and capacity.
- OJ supplies sufficient fuel to operate 2 engines during takeoff and cruise.
- Main supplies sufficient fuel to operate one engine during takeoff and cruise.
FCOM 1 27.20.10
What controls main 2 and main 3 OJ pumps and when do they operate automatically?
- Controlled by fuel system management card (FSMC)
- Automatic When Centre tank off or centre tank low pressure.
FCOM 1 28.20.10
Describe Scavenge pumps fuel transfer operation, number of pumps and when do they operate?
Centre tank is scavenged by 4 jet pumps; 2 into each main 2 and main 3.
Begins when main 2 and 3 fuel quantity decreases to 27,200KG and centre tank less than or equal to1600KG.
FCOM 1 28.20.2
How many different fuel transfer valves are installed and what are their functions?
- Main tank 1 transfer (M1 to M2) and Main tank 4 transfer (M4 to M3)
- Reserve tank 1 transfer (R1 to M1) and Reserve tank 4 transfer (R4 to M4). Each reserve tank contains 2 transfer valves.
FCOM 1 28.20.9
When does the reserve tank fuel transfer start and where does the fuel transfer to?
When Main 1 or 4 decreases to 6100KG.
FCOM 1 28.20.9
How many different ways do the aircraft system deliver fuel to the APU and from which tanks?
Normally supplied from Main tank 2. When AC power is available: -Main 2 and 3 aft boost pump ON -Main 3 boost pump is on to prevent tank to tank transfer. When AC power not available: -DC pump feeding from Main 2.
FCOM 1 28.20.9
Which crossfeed valves can be automatically controlled and when?
FMSC closes crossfeed valves 2 and 3 when flaps extend for takeoff on the ground. (Between Flaps 10 and 20)
FCOM 1 28.20.9
How many FSMC’s are installed and what are their functions?
2 installed.
Command fuel valves open or closed and fuel pumps on or off according to fuel management logic.
FCOM 1 28.20.9
What is the purpose of the Main 1 and 4 transfer valves? Are the manually or automatically operated?
- Transfer fuel from outboard main tanks to Inboard main tanks.
- Automatically Open during jettison when Main 2 or 3 quantity decreases so 21,600KG.
FCOM 1 28.20.9
At what CWT quantity will FUEL OVD CTR L/R message appear (Ground, climb, and cruise)?
Ground: CWT quantity 7700KG or more with CWT pump OFF
Cruise: CWT quantity 1800KG or more with CWT pump OFF
FCOM 1 28.30.2
Do the OJ pump switches need to be selected ON for jettison operation?
OJ pumps will be activated automatically by selecting Jettison.
FCOM 1 28.20.11
Which tank can be balanced by the fuel jettison operation and how is it done?
Balanced between main tanks 2 and 3. Balances by detecting differences between tank quantities and deactivating pump on lesser tank until quantities are equal.
FCOM 1 28.29.12
Where and when is “fuel to remain” indication displayed?
EICAS
FCOM 1 28.20.11
When do the Main 1 and 4 transfer valves open during fuel jettison?
When Main 2 or 3 quantity decreases to 21,600KG
FCOM 1 28.20.12
What does FUEL TANK/ENGINE EICAS message mean and what are the required actions?
Ground: with crossfeed valves 1 and 4 open. In both wings when Inboard tank quantity is equal or less than the sum of the outboard tank and reserve tank plus 500KG
In flight: with crossfeed valves 1 and 4 open. In either wing and Inboard tank quantity is less than or equal to the sum of the respective outboard tank and reserve tank.
Action:
- Main 2 and 3 OJ pump OFF.
- Crossfeed valves 1 and 4 closed.
FCOM 1 28.20.10
What message appears when calculated fuel and totaliser fuel differs by a significant amount?
FUEL DISAGREE
FCOM 1 28.30.1
What happens when any tank quantity is below 900KG?
FUEL QTY LOW
FCOM 1 28.30.2
How is fuel jettison performed?
OJ pumps in main tanks 2 and 3 and centre tank pump fuel overboard through jettison nozzles.
FCOM 1 28.20.11
How is it possible to jettison fuel out of the outboard main tanks?
Open transfer valves.
When Main 2 or 3 tanks decrease to 21,600KG, transfer valves open.
FCOM 1 28.20.12
When will fuel jettison terminate and what is displayed?
When total fuel quantity matches “fuel to remain” set. “Fuel to remain” changes from magenta to white and flashed for 5 seconds.
