Definition of Frozen shoulder
Periarthritis of shoulders
Inflammation of cause degeneration pathological changes around shoulder joint and periarticular soft structures
Pain and limited movements of unilateral or bilateral and its surrounding tissues
Pale tongue, thin and white coating
Superifical or wiry pulse
Tongue and pulse for Invasion of Wind Cold Damp
SnS of Qi and blood stagnation
Fixed sharp or stabbing pain which becomes worse during the night
May be swelling of shoulder
Limited movement shoulder
Tongue and Pulse of Qi and blood stagnation
Tongue: Purple with thin, white or yellow coating
Pulse: Wiry and thready and choppy
Soreness and pain in the shoulder aggravated by overstrain
limited movement of shoulder, may have muscular atrophy
SOB, lassitude dizziness, blurred vision, palpitation, tinnitus
Qi and blood Deficiency
POT of frozen shoulder
Dispel W-C-D, regulate Qi and blood
Circulate collaterals
What are the 3 shoulder needles
LI15, SI9 and SJ 14
What other remedies would you use?
Auricular: shoulder joint, clavicle, adrenal, Shen men, Liv, Sp and Kid
Herbal paste - Ensure patient has no reaction
Electro acupuncture: SJ14, LI15, Jian Qian + SI19, Jiaji points - low frequency 2-4Hz
Moxa: AShi and local poiints, combine with warming needles/moxa stick
Bleeding tender spots, use cups after
Which meridian is involved if there is pain in the Posterior shoulder, extension and flexion difficulty
Taiyin
Where would pain be presented if the Yang Ming and Shaoyang meridians are involved
Anterior, lateral side usually combined together, Difficulty abducting
Numb fingers on dorsal side - Shao Yang

Indications of Taiyang meridian
On Back: SI
Occurs is posterior shoulder
Most difficult flexion (forward) and adduction (across body)
May radiate to upper back area
Indications of Taiyin meridian
More medial LU1-2 area
Difficult extending arm
Shaoyang/Yangming meridian
More lateral pain (post and ant)
Difficult to abduct
Palpate the most tender spot to determine dominant meridian
Shaoyang pain may radiate to elbow
Radiate pain from SJ5 area but the dorsum of hand
