(Freud) what is a structure and a continued model
Structural is when they occur in stages, and a continuous model is when the trend is linear
What does Freuds structural model compose of?
It composed of the Id superego and ego
What is the id? (Freud)
The instinctual part of the mind that seeks gratification of desires and impulses. (Only focused on pleasure)
What is the ego?
The ego is a part of the mind where it takes into consideration of reality before taking the needs of the id
What is the superego?
The superego is the moral part of us and develops through moral restraints. It is equivalent to the conscious as it dictates our beliefs
What are the 5 stages of psychosexual theory?
Oral stage, Anal stage, Phallic stage, Latency stage, Genital stage
what is the oral stage?
(Birth-1 year) the ego directs the baby’s activities of sucking. If not satisfied, it can result in thumb sucking or nail biting
What is the anal stage?
(1-3 years) involves the control of urine and feces. If not controlled, can result in messiness.
What is the phallic stage?
(3-6years) Oedipus conflict for boys and Electra conflict for girls arise. Children may dislike to same-sex parents and desire for opposite
What is the latency stage?
(6-11years) decreased sexual desires as the superego develops. They start adopting social values from others
What is the Genital stage?
(Adolescent-adult) if earlier stages are resolved, sexual desires remerge, successful development leads to marriage, mature sexuality.
What is a Freudian slip?
Is a verbal mistake that exposed unconscious thoughts or feelings. This happens when the mind momentarily overrides consciousness.
What is a defence mechanism
The phenomenon where the ego of the concise mind manages anxiety by altering and assimilating reality
What is displacement ?
Where one transfers negative feeling from one place to another
What is projection?
Where one releasing their dangerous anger towards another person.
