Who was Erik Erickson? What was his belief
He was a psychologist, he believes that development occurs throughout all of a persons life, and how those stages affect one’s life.
What is the infancy stage?
(Birth-18months) is about trust vs mistrust, this depends on if the parents give care and attention.
What is the early childhood stage?
(2-3years) is about autonomy vs shame and doubt. Toilets training gives personal control to the child, depending on the outcome, they may be one or the other
What is the preschool stage?
(3-5years) is about initiative vs guilt, children in this stage start taking control over their environment. Excreting too much control can result in guilt.
What is the school age stage?
(6-11years) is about industry vs inferiority. With school, children will learn to cope with social and academic demands. Failure will lead to inferiority.
What is the adolescent stage?
(12-18) is about identity role vs confusion. With social relationships being present, people development a sense of self identity. Failure to do so leads to confusion.
What is the young adulthood stage?
(19-40) is about intimacy vs isolation, with relationships being major, adults will start to form them with others. Failure to do so leads to isolation.
What is the Middle adulthood stage?
(40-60years) is about generality vs stagnation. With work and parenthood, they tend to creature things that outlast them. Failure leads to stagnation.
What is The maturity stage?
(65+ years) is about ego integrity vs despair. With reflection on life being important, they will look back on their life. Not being fulfilled leads to regret and bitterness while the opposite is wisdom.
