Boys/girls who have sexual desires of relationships towards opposite sex parent. Sees them as competition for other sex parents affection.

mouth erogenous zone, pleasure form sucking, id dominate
Types-over gratified/ not gratified enough you will have problems in personality development
leads to:
-oral incorporative passive
people pleasing
dependent, over optimistic
or
-oral aggressive
negative with words, pessimistic, sarcastic
both are fixated on oral activates, dependent, over optimistic
- Anal

-anus primary erogenous zone, learn consequences, ego start development
(toilet training interfere with gratification of defecating)
Leads to-
-anal retentive
ridged, stubborn, stringy, attachment to possession sand organize them (holding onto poop)
or
-anal aggressive/expulsive
cruel, destructive, messy, temper, words(expulsing poop)
4.Phalic
4-5
genitals primary erogenous zone, id pleasure connected to genitals (discovering), superego development
Types-
The male phallic personality
The female phallic personality (unconscious)
Boys: Oedipus complex, castrartion anxiety
Girls: Electra complex, penis envy
-weak super ego=self centered, obsessed with self leads to Types
men- looks, vain, boastful, player concer women
woman- looks, flirt, flaunt assess to manipulate
this personality may be set by age 5
- Latency
5 -puberty
not true stage, hobbies, same sex friendships
- Genital
-personality formed ,conforming to societal sanctions of sexual expression
-finding satisfaction in love and work, focus committed adult relationships, the genital type
Psychoanalytical approach
An approach to the study of personality which believes that human behavior results from an interaction of conscious and unconscious processes in the mind. Behavior is determined by irrational forces and biological drives.
