GNP growth
Between 1948 and 1963, te French GNP grew an average of 4.6%
Agricultural growth post 1945
After 1945, agricultural production grew at an average of 2.5% per year while productivity per man hour grew by an average of 7% per year
Monnet plan: tractors
-Before the war France had contained 35,000 tractors and 260 combine harvesters, by 1967 this had risen to 1.1million tractiors and 110,000 combine harvester
Agricultural population facts
-Proportion of the population employed by agriculture dropped from 2million in 1954 to 1million in 1968
Energy
- French coal production peaked at 60million tonnes in 1952
- Hydroelectricity provided 25% of French electricity in 1938, but production quadrupuled after 1945
Labour facts
- Unemployment never rose above 1.8%
- Though the toal population increased from 40.million to 52.6million between 1946 and 1975, the toal working population increased by only 1.3million
Nationalising
- Renault taken over by the state after 1945
- Gaz de France and EDF
- By the 1950s, around 25% of capital formation occurred within the nationalised sector.
US aid
-Between 1948 and 1952 France received $2.5billion from the USA
Industrial production
- By 1947, industrial production had again attained its 1938 level
- Industrial production increased by 85% in the years 1950-8
Car fact
-The number of private cars increased from under 750,000 in 1951 to 4 million in 1958
Inflation
-Among de Gaulle’s first measures was a 20% devaluation of the franc

Immigration
-By 1975 there were 4 million foreigners constituting 8% of the total labour force and 17% of industrial workers

-In the 1960s some 400,000 houses were being created
Urbanisation
-Population of town dwellers rose from 21.5million in 1946 to 33.6million in 1968.
