Humanistic Approach:

A
  • Humanistics argue self-determination is a necessary part of human behaviour.
  • Rogers (1959) said as long as the individual is controlled by other people they cannot take responsibility for their actions so therefore cannot change it.
  • By taking this stance the humanistic approach is seen as positive as it is encouraging people to better themselves and reach self actualisation.

Moral responsibility:

A
  • That an individual is in charge of their own actions.
  • Idea in society that ‘normal’ adult behaviours are self-determined.
  • Humans are accountable for their actions regardless of innate factors or the influences of early experience.
