what is a free hand sketch
a sketch using a pencil and no other instruments so no ruler is used and the dimensions are estimated
what are some of the advantages of free hand sketches
- ideas can, quickly + easily be sketched onto paper
- enables you, put thoughts together in order not to forget anything
- compare ideas + communicate clearly with others
- modifications and alterations can be made quickly
meanings: free-hand sketching, working drawings
free-hand sketching - drawing in 2D / 3D using no drawing instruments
working drawings - 2D drawings in which only 1 2D face can be seen and they contain all line types, scale and dimensions
what can you use free-hand sketches to create
2D and 3D drawings (oblique and perspective)
where should you eye look in a free-hand sketch
you eye should look where you want the line to be drawn
how do you draw a square free-hand
If you are drawing it for someone else to draw draw arrows on it indicating which way to go and if they are right handed go left, up, right, down if you are left handed go the opposite way. don’t pick up pencil look at corners and your hand follows
how do you draw a circle free-hand
- draw a cross
- now draw an X dividing quarters in half
- estimate length from centre along lines, mark it on lines
- place pencil on 1 intersection. look at next line, keep moving hand and joining points together look at lines not hand once points are joined you have circle
what do you do when preparing working drawings
1 - consider types of views you need to draw
2 - add dimensions
3 - use cutting list. very important in working drawing and it lists all the parts and their measurements. also lists materials used ,and the required finish
