Is Franciacorta full of growers and co-ops like they are producers?
No. There are not co-ops and barely any growers meaning that estate producers are have the resources and are motivated to grow high quality grapes and produce high quality wines
Are the grapes for making white and rose wines handled differently when producing Franciacorta?
Yes!
- When making white wine, the fruit must be whole bunch pressed (which is required by law) to ensure high-quality juice with low phenolic content
- The Pinot Noir used for rose wines and red wines (which will be blended to make rose wine) can be destemmed.
What is the maximum permitted yields for Franciacorta?
65hL/ha (1,717 gallons per acre)
How are Franciacorta producers adding complexity to their Millesimato and Riserva wines?
They are fermenting and/or aging their wines in old oak
Do Franciacorta producers have reserve wines?
For small producers, usually not. But the larger Franciacorta producers do have some reserve wines to add depth and complexity to their wines

- 18 months on the lees minimum
- Up to 50% Pinot Bianco (though wines are typically Chardonnay and Pinot Noir)

- This style can only be made using white grapes

- Can only be made in a brut style
