Cote D’ Or:
The Cote D’ Or or as known as the golden slope
It Consists Of A Narrow Ridge Of:
- Limestone
That Is Broken Into Two Sections:
- The Cote de Nuits to the north
- The Cote de Beaune to the south
Cote de Nuits:
The AOCs That Are Located In Cote De Nuits Are:
- Marsannay ( the only one is allowed to produce rose wines as well)
- Fixin
- Gevrey Chambertin
- Morey St Denis
- Chambolle- Musigny
- Vougeot
- Vosne Romanee
- Nuits Saint Georges
There are 33 Grand Crus in Burgundy which are 24 are located in the Cote de Nuits
Some Of The Best Examples Are:
- Chambertin Grand Cru
- Bonnes Mares
- Musigny
- La Tache
- La Romanee
- Romanee Conti
Corton:
- From Corgoloin and south from the Cote de Nuits the massive hill of Corton which is located within Aloxe- Corton AOP spreads across the landscape, marking the beginning of the Cote de Beaune
- The hill’s summit is capped by a small forest, but its western, southern and eastern flanks are awash in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay
Grand Cru vines: 160ha altogether, all entitled to the Corton Grand Cru AOP
Corton Can Be Produced In Three Different Appellations:
- Corton
- Corton Charlemagne AOP
- Charlemagne AOP
Beaune:
- The city of Beaune is the commercial Center of the Cote de Beaune and the largest metropolitan area between Chalon- Sur- Saone and Dijon
Beaune Is The Home Of Negociants Like:
- Louis Jadot
- Bouchard Pere& Fils
- Patriarche Pere& Fils
- Chanson
- Joseph Drouhin
The Premier Crus are certainly variable in quality, there are 42
Main Premier Crus Which Produce High Quality Juice Are:
- Les Bressandes
- Les Greves
- Les Teurons
Beaune is actually home to a second village appellation of sorts, the Cote de Beaune AOP
The Top AOCs Which Are In The Cote de Beaune AOP Are:
- Meursalt
- Puligny Montrachet
- Chassagne Montrachet
There are as well some exceptional AOCs like Pommard and Volnay which are producing only red wines in the Cote de Beaune, but for this level our focus will be on the above three AOCs
Bonneau du Martray, French grower, producer in the Cote de Beaune
Meursault:
- Meursault itself produces a higher quality of white wines than any other commune in the Cote D’ Or
Classic Meursault White Wine Is:
- Rich
- Almost fat on the palate
- With a nutty, buttery, honeyed spectrum of flavours
- Softer acidity than exhibited in Puligny- Montrachet

Puligny Montrachet:
- It is probably the most famous appellation in Burgundy producing world class Chardonnay, from:
1. Montrachet
2. Batard Montrachet
3. Chevalier Montrachet
4. Bienvenues- Batard- Montrachet
The southeast facing, 8ha Montrachet Grand Cru AOP is currently divided amongst 16 owners
Puligny- Montrachet’s 17 Premier Crus sweep northward from the Grands Crus along the same slope:
- Le Cailleret
- Les Pucelles
- Les Demoiselles
Top Domains Based In Puligny- Montrachet Include:
- Domaine Leflaive
- Jacques Carillon
- Etienne Sauzet
- Paul Pernot
Chassagne Montrachet:
- Despite claiming half of Montrachet Grand Cru AOP, the Chassagne side is known as “ Le Montrachet” nearly half of “ Batard- Montrachet Grand Cru AOP” and the entirely of “ Criots- Batard- Montrachet AOP”
- Much of Chassagne- Montrachet is actually better suited to Pinot Noir than Chardonnay
Historically red grapes were planted throughout, as evidence by Lavalle’s selection of modern Premier Crus:
- Morgeot
- Clos Pitois
- Clos Saint- Jean
At 1,6ha “ Criots- Batard- Montrachet” is the only “Grand Cru Chassagne” claims in its entirety, and the smallest white wine producing Grand Cru in Burgundy

Cote Chalonnaise:
The AOCs Included In Cote Challonaise Are:
- Rully
- Mercurey ( Faiveley is producing top wines here)
- Givry
- Montagny
- Bouzeron ( White only appellation and A and P de Villaine is one of the top producers)
