two pieces of wood have dent tn the middle which fit together to form an x shape

seen on strengthening rails of table and chairs
common woodworking joint
t halving / dovetail halving and half lap joint process
the shape of a v is cut into a plank of wood and the other plank has the letter v cut to the end of it
t-halving / dovetail having and half lap joint
used where great strength is not required, they are also much easier to makr out and cut
