Fractures types Flashcards
Fall on extended and outstretched hands commonly results in what fracture?
Colle’s fracture

What does Colle’s fracture result in?
Colle’s fracture
- distal radius fracture
- dorsal displacement of fragments
*‘dinner fork’ type deformity

What’s that?

Colle’s fracture
- fracture of distal radius
- dorsal displacement of fragments
Result of: fall on outstretched hands and extended wrists

What’s reverse Colle’s fracture?
Smith’s fracture = reverse Colle’s fracture
- fall on flexed wrists
- anterior displacement of distal fragments

What’s that?

Smith’s fracture = reverse Colle’s fracture
- fall on flexed wrists
- anterior displacement of distal fragments

The difference between Colle’s and Smith’s fractures
Colle’s
- fall on outstretched hands and extended wrists
- dorsal displacement of distal fragments
Smith’s
- fall on flexed wrists
- anterior displacement of distal fragments

What’s Galeazzi fracture?
Galeazzi fracture
- fracture of the wrist
- dislocation of distal radio-ulnar joint
Usually due to fall on outstretched hand with elbow in flexion

What’s that?

Galeazzi fracture
- fracture of the wrist
- dislocation of distal radio-ulnar joint
Usually due to fall on outstretched hand with elbow in flexion

Difference between Monteggia vs Galezzi fractures
- A Monteggia fracture is a fracture of the proximal ulna with dislocation of the radial head.
- A Galeazzi fracture is a fracture of the distal radius with dislocation of the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ)

Mnemonic for Monteggia vs Galezzi fracture
- MUGR (pronounced “MUGGER”): identifies the fractured bone.
- MU: Monteggia Ulna
- GR: Galeazzi Radius
- Use “A to Z” to remember the location of the fracture-dislocation.
- ‘A’ is proximal (MonteggiA)
- Radial head dislocation and proximal ulna fracture
- ‘Z’ is distal (GaleazZi)
- Distal radioulnar joint dislocation and distal radius fracture

What’s Buckle’s fracture?
Buckle’s fracture
- compression fracture
- commonly seen in children due to bones being softer and porous in kids

What’s that?

Buckle’s fracture
- compression fracture
