the crude oil is heated in a funae and then the liquid and vapours are passed throough a fractional colum cool at the top and hot and the botto

when they reach their tray which is a lower boiling point they then condense and piped out forming a solution containing of simmilair carbon chain length

thick residue doesnt have much use needs to be futher processed to give valuable products
