A

What is the first stage?

A

Wet end
Wood pulp - 99% water 1% fibre - in head box
Wood pulp on vibrating gauze belt which drains water and helps fibres to interweave

A

Press section
Rollers wring out paper - stretches out paper
Space between paper determines thickness (gsm)

A

Drying section
Steam heated rollers remove moisture
Starches, sizing agents and resins given to enhance paper
