What does the Fourdrinier process do?
A
Produce paper from pulp

What is the first stage?
A
Wet end
Wood pulp - 99% water 1% fibre - in head box
Wood pulp on vibrating gauze belt which drains water and helps fibres to interweave

A
Press section
Rollers wring out paper - stretches out paper
Space between paper determines thickness (gsm)

A
Drying section
Steam heated rollers remove moisture
Starches, sizing agents and resins given to enhance paper

Calendar Stack
Paper fed through rollers to smooth and give uniform thickness
Pressure applied determines finish
