Why was the East end a key place ?( basically why was it targeted)

A

Housed the docks which food, raw material and weaponry was unloaded
Also had many factories and warehouses with dense housing
Actively targeted 1940-41
Because of the port of London it was a key point for Britain’s military, economy and by extent the population

Why was Westminster a key place?( think BCDHop and when it was targeted)

A

-Home to Buckingham palace( King George VI lived there)
-Centre of national government was also at Whitehall ( where war effort was organized)
-Downing Street (prime minister and Chancellor of the exchequer)
- wartime Houses of Parliament
Targeted heavily during May 1941
Extremely key to Britain’s government and people’s morale

Why was the city of London a key place? (What it contained+ why they are important and when was it targeted)

A

East of Westminster
-Financial center of England containing the Bank of England, stock exchange
- contained important rail links and telephone links such as the Faraday building ( vital for communications)
- all of these where vital for Britain’s success and the Bank of England raised money via War bonds
Targeted intensely in December 1940 by incendiary bombs
Key to Britain’s Economy, Government, people’s morale and the military

Why was Suburban London a key place ? ( population and differences in areas)

A

Most of London population lives in the suburbs
Most houses had a good size garden with room for an Anderson shelter
Those to the East suffered a larger tonnage of bombing compared to those in the West of London as they where not in the flight path although some did have casualties
Key to Britains Morale and economy
