Foundations of Environment Science Flashcards
What is the environment?
all abiotic and biotic things around us (animals, plants, continents, oceans, structures, social relationships) → We are included and dependent on the environment
Nonrenewable
finite, formed slower than we use them (coal, crude oil, minerals)
Renewable
we can’t run out (sun, wind)
ecological footprint
expresses the environmental impact of biologically productive land and water required for a person or population to use and dispose of to live.
Overshoot
Humans have surpassed the Earth’s capacity to support us
What is the Scientific Method?
observation → question → hypothesis → predictions → experiment
Paradigm shift
a dramatic upheaval of a thought (EX= the earth is flat, nope + sun revolves around the earth, nope)
