Foundations 3 Flashcards
What are nuclear localization signals and what are they composed of?
Highly conserved 4-8 amino acid sequences rich in lysine, arginine, and proline (positively charged)
What regulates transition from G1 to S phase of the cell cycle?
P53 (Li-Fraumeni) and Rb (osteosarcoma and retinoblastomas)
How does p53 regulate the cell cycle?
Controls activation of p21 which then binds to and inactivates Cyclin-CDK complexes
Which amino acids can be modified by the Golgi?
Serine, Threonine (o-oligosaccharide), and asparagine (n-oligosaccharide)
What addition to proteins by the Golgi targets them to lysosomes?
Mannose-6-phosphate
Which Cyclin complexes cause progression from G1-S?
Cyclin D/CDK4
Cyclin E/CDK2
Which Cyclin complexes cause progression from G2-M?
Cyclin A/CDK2 (Mitotic Prophase)
Cyclin B/CDK1 (Lamin Breakdown)
