Found Weapon Flashcards
4 USCG Firearm safety rules:
1- Treat all firearms as if they are loaded.
2- Always maintain proper muzzle control.
3- Keep finger of trigger until on target and ready to shoot.
4- Know your target and what is beyond it.
Weapon as described in the deadly force triangle:
-Something that has the ability to cause death or serous physical injury.
Importance of securing a weapon found:
-Firearms and other weapons that have the ability to cause death or serious physical injury present a threat in the safety of the Boarding Team.
Ways to secure and neutralize a found weapon:
-Point firearm in a safe direction.
-Engage safety.
-Unload weapon.
-Move to location unknown to crew.
-Separate weapon from ammo.
-Flex cuff.
-Guard/Post.
General procedures to ensure a weapon is safe:
1-Engage safety.
2-Remove source of ammunition.
3-Ensure chamber/Barrel is clear.
