steambending
process of combining heat and steam to bend and shape timber over a former
Timber is put into a steam box where it will absorb the steam and then bent over a former and clamped until dry
laminating
process of bonding materials together
Wood veneers or thin manufactured boards are glued together and bent over a former

butt joint
two pieces of wood joined together at 90 with adhesive
dowel joint
drill holes for dowel half way. wood glue it put into holes and then dowels are hammered into position
mitre joint

finger joint
two pieces of interlock because every other finger is cut and opposite on the other side- strong
dovetail joint
directional strength and once glued together, cannot be pulled apart- commonly used for drawers
biscuit joint
inserting a compressed woodchip (biscuit) into the slot cut in two corresponding pieces and then glued. the glue makes the chip swell
grooved frame
mortise and tenon
making a square or rectangular hole (mortise) and then the second piece is cut to fit. them=n PVA glue is spread into the mortise and two parts are clamped together
stopped housing
a housing joint with not seam on the outside edge because the house stops short and consequently hidden
