air seasoning
traditional, less expensive way- leave wood outside under a shelter and air circulating slowly removes the excess moisture- usually used for outdoor products
kiln seasoning
more expensive way, planks stacked on trolleys and rolled into the kiln where humidity and temperature are controlled. the initial air is steamy before gradually becoming hotter and drier used for indoor products as low moisture content
toxicity
dust and sap from the wood is a hazard and forms a health risk to the workers manufacturing it
