Presentation of the review falls under two parts. What are they?
After reading meticulously and raw data has been put together the review consists of
- Fact sheet/Statistics
- The review proper
Okay what do these parts depend on?
- The amount of space available
- The medium of publication
What items should the fact sheet contain?
- Full title of work and edition
- Name of author/creator
- Name of publisher
- Year of publication
- Length of work
- Name of reviewer
- ISBN
The second part of the review consists of?
A well reasoned presentation in the form of an essay. The intro should be catchy, the body should contain a take on the general theme with subsequent paragraphs relating it to the story and the conclusion should be an overall impression of the work.
What’s an “in response” review?
Sometimes a review may be in response to or debating another work within its discipline. This is commonly found in academic journals.
Reviewers should?
- Simply provide generalized info on the work to be reviewed as he isn’t competent by the way of background to do so.
- Confine himself to present facts of the work without injecting his opinion.
Reviewers shouldn’t?
Pass critical judgements or evaluate the performance of the work of art or the creator of the work of art.
A review should?
Simply contain the basic information of the work of art while including a summary of the content and reactions of the audience so far.
Critics should?
-Compare works of art to others in their field/discipline as they are aware of the standards they should uphold to and measure the successes/failures of the work.
Critics should also?
- Judge the ability/performance of the creators of the work of art.
- Be objective and not allow personal biases/emotions skew their criticism.
Criticism requires?
Expert judgement and evaluation of the work of art as critics are qualified enough to do so.
