A channel of communication is usually controlled by managers or people who lie in the top hierarchy in an organization.
Formal Communication
Prevails more in the middle and lower rings of the organizations
Informal Communication
Refers to the level of formality we use when speaking or writing.
Register
The choice of Register depends on these 3 things
- Audience
- Purpose
- Context
Who you are speaking to (clients, colleagues, friends)
Audience
Why you are communicating (professional or casual setting)
Purpose
Where the communication is taking place (business meeting, casual chat, email, etc.)
Context
Characteristics: Full sentences, professional tone, precise language, and polite expressions
Formal Register
Used in a professional setting where, respect, politeness, and professionalism are key. It follows strict grammar rules and avoids colloquial language.
Formal Register
Used in a casual or relaxed setting. More conversational and may include slang or colloquial expressions
Informal Register
Simple sentences, friendly tone, casual language and informal expressions.

“Dear Mr. Smith, Thank you for your inquiry regarding our luxury suites. We are pleased to inform you that the suites are available for the dates you requested. Please let us know if you require any additional information or assistance”.
