Start with the right salutation: ‘Dear Sir / Madam,’ or make up a name ‘Dear Mr Ricks,’
Refer to the act of reading: ‘As you read this letter, you might be thinking…’
End with the right sign-off: ‘Yours sincerely’ if you know them, or ‘Yours faithfully’ if you don’t
