Forelimb - static exam Flashcards

1
Q

What are the general principles of forelimb static examination?

A
  • Make sure the horse is safely restrained and calm to examine – change the environment if not (Friends, Food, Freedom)
  • Palpate both legs for comparison
  • Look for the cardinal signs of disease – heat, pain and swelling (including synovial effusion)
  • Don’t jump to conclusions – remember findings may be old or insignificant. Make good records and interpret in light of other clinical findings (history, dynamic exam and diagnostic tests)
  • Know your anatomy..
