pressure on individuals to identify with and support agency and group
Crisis Decision Making
in a period of crisis, many factors pressure decision makers into immediate action, such as the element of surprise, the perceived threat to values, news media attention, relations with other countries
Diplomacy
the process by which representatives of two or more governments meet and discuss matters of common concern
Coercion
aggressive actions short of the immediate large-scale use of military force
Containment
a strategy by which one state employs diplomacy, economic assistance, and military power to counter and check efforts by an adversary state to extend its global sphere of influence
Détente
a relaxing of tension during the Cold War in which economic interdependence began to develop between east and west and global trade increased
Asymmetric Warfare
warfare in which opposing groups or nations have unequal military resources, and the weaker opponent uses unconventional weapons and tactics, such as terrorism, to exploit the vulnerabilities of the enemy
Hard Power
based on capabilities, tangible resources
