Forcible ENTRY 1 Flashcards
DOORS (INWARD )
- fork of halligan 6 inches above or below lock with BEVEL TO DOOR , slightly canted to floor or ceiling…strike halligan with axe driving it PAST door jamb..apply pressure on the halligan toward the door, forcing open
- when forcing door with 2 locks, place in between
When attacking hinge?
always attack UPPER HINGE FIRST , so smoke and heat will vent
DOORS(OUTWARD)
-adz end 6inches above/below and drive it into space between door and jamb, be careful not to penetrate the door stop portion of jamb …pry downward and out with fork end of the tool
- RECESSED DOORS or doors with a wall adjacent to the lock side of the door:
- place adz of the halligan 6” above or below the lock and drive it into the space between the door and jamb , pry down and out
k tool..
- mortise and rim cylinder puller
- used to pull majority of lock cylinders
- used in conjunction with axe and halligan
to open locks after cylinder has been removed:
-cam principle, key turns a cam tag slide the bolt out of the strike
5 o’clock to 7’ockock principle …before pulling the lock cylinder, check position of keyway. (always 6 o’clock position ) move 5 to 7 or 7 to 5
RIM LOCK
- fits on INSIDE surface of door with the CYLINDER VISIBLE from outside
1) SCREW DRIVER principle-key turns stem on end of the cylinder which fits into the backplate of the lock
2) pull cylinder and check rear for stem size
3) insert straight end of key tool into stem slot on the lock …turn key tool either direction LEFT OR RIGHT
POLICE LOCKS - (rim lock) the stem of the cylinder is SQUARE SHAPPED THUS REQUIRING 5/32” KEY TOOL
DOUBLE BAR -FOX LOCKS –easily recognizable by location of cylinder in CENTER OF DOOR
- metal plate with 4 bolts
- shear off top two bolts and one bottom , exposing lock cylinder , remove cylinder with K TOOL ,using square key turn the tool towards bottom bar thus unlocking door
PADLOCKS..
regular- 1/4’ OR LESS , NOT HARDENED
HEAVY DUTY- more than 1/4”” and HARDENED
- feature is toe and heel looking, meaning both ends of the SHACKLE are locked ..must CUT BOTH SIDE OF SHACKLE (regular padlocks, one end of shackle cut, is usually sufficient )
- case hardened locks require DIAMOND BLADE
AMERICAN SERIES 2000
-cut through lock about 2/3rds of the distance UP from the keyway cutting it in two pieces , then remove pin from security gate
WINDOWS
-PLACE FORK END of halligan under window at CENTER and apply downward pressure
window gates:
-attack at HINGE side (opposite locking device) using halligan , gate is easily forced …slide gate towards locking device thus clearing about 2/3rds of window
MULTI LOCK doors..
–not centered, but easily recognizable by large plate
-4 bars, one in each direction , enter door jamb when lock is engaged
note; make sure multi lock is engaged PRIOR TO FORCING ENTRY, SLIDE CARDBOARD under door along bottom
CUT TRIANGLE IN LOWER QUADRANT, DOORKNOB SIDE , Large enough to get your arm through and out, small enough to not cut bar (good on conventional locks also )
MANUALLY operated doors (security gates )
-recognizeable by absence of any racing mechanism housing at drum level (top) and the presence of LIFT HANDLES at bottom bar…usually have 2-4 padlocks installed on the bottom or along sides …remove padlock and remove eye bolts, lift .
MECHANICALLY OPERATED securtiy gates
-recognizeable by GEAR AND CHAIN MECHANISM in housing at top , with approx 1 foot of chain visible beneath hosing drum, cover by angle iron…remove padlock from chain cover and door, use chain to raise door
ELECTRICALLY OPERATED ..
-MOTOR and components in large metal housing, located on outside of installation, adjacent to either side of drum
-AUXILIARY hoist mechanism located inside the operator housing and is not visible from outside
-remove padlocks, remove cover of housing or remove entire housing
-pushing the level towards the chain hoist mechanism will engage unit and the door can be raised mechanically by use of chain provided
or cut bicycle chain using the bolt cutters and security gate is now hanging free, you now have manually operated door, 2 or 3 members may now raise
if delay is anticipated and heavy fire conditions exist, and applications of water is of immediate necessity , security gate cut using saw
- SMALL TRIANGLE below center of door and a stream operated
- LARGER TRIANGLE , SLATS ON EITHER SIDE REMOVED, SLIDE SLATS TOWARD THE CUT
CARIDNAL RULE
TRY DOORKNOB
FORCIBLE ENTRY (AXE /HALLIGAN)
-member holding tool is COORDINATOR OF ACTION , TELLING AXE FF WHEN TO STRIKE
AXE shall NEVER STRIKE WITHOUT BEING TOLD by halligan member
-tool is held with the hand at the hook end PALM UP and fork end PALM DOWN
-FORK END 6 INCHES above /below
bevel to door
while penetrating , gradually bring tool to position perpendicular to the door and continue striking with axe until fork end is well past the interior door jamb
-apply pressure toward the door, forcing it in
The FF holding the axe stands at the side opposite member holding the halligan tool in order to reduce the chance of striking the other firefighter
axe not swung, used with shoulder and stiff arm
-awkward condition , wall will not permit the members to operate on opposite sides of the halligan tool , thus putting members on same side
