Forces YEAR 7 Flashcards
What is a Force?
A push or a pull.
What is a Newton Meter?
A piece of equipment used to measure weight in Newtons.
What is Air Resistance?
The force of an object moving through the air that causes it to slow down (also known as drag)
What is Wieght?
The force of the Earth on an object due to it’s mass.
What is Mass?
The amount of matter a thing is made of.
What is a Newton?
The unit of a force, symbol N
What is Friction?
The force that resists movement because of contact between surfaces.
What is Gravity?
A non-contact force that acts between two masses.
What is water resistance?
THe force of an object moving through water that causes it to slow down.
What is drag force?
The force acting on an object that are the same size but act in opposite diections.
What is driving force?
The force that is pushing or pulling something.
What is Hooke’s law?
The law that says that if you double the force on an object the extension will double.
What is a kilogram (KG)?
A unit of mass, symbol KG.
What is a reaction?
THe support force provided by a solid surface like a floor.
What is a magnetic force?
THe force between two magnet, or a magnet and magnetic metal.
What is electrostatic force?
THe force acting between two cgarged objects.
What is lubrication?
A substance that reduces friction between surfaces when they rub together.
What is an interaction pair?
When two objects interact there is a force on each one that is the same size but in opposing directions.
What is a non-contact force?
A magnetic, electrostatic, or gravitational force that acts between two objects not in contact.
What does streamlined mean?
Shaped to reduce resistance to motion from air or water.
