Forces Revision Flashcards
What is a force?
A force is a push, pull, twist or turn. They can cause changes to occur.
What can a force do?
A force can push or pull and object. It can change the shape of an object and its direction. A force can speed up or slow down an object.
Give 3 examples of non-contact forces
Magnetic forces, electrostatic forces and gravity are 3 examples of no-contact forces.
What is drag?
Drag is the force that opposes the movement of an object.
Give an example of a: Starting Motion
Pedalling a bike
Give an example of a: Stopping Motion
Braking on a bike
Give an example of a: Speeding Up Motion
Pushing
Give an example of a: Slowing Down Motion

Force =
Mass x Acceleration, M x A, MA
There are two types of forces. What are they?
Contact and Non-Contact
Give examples of a contact force.
Applied forces, buoyancy, friction, drag-air resistance and water resistance, normal
Give examples of a non-contact force.
Gravity, electrostatic, magnetic, (nuclear)
What is a vector diagram and what does it do?
A vector diagram is a diagram with the forces acting upon the object in the picture labelled. It is used to show which forces are acting upon an object and which direction the force is acting. The length of the arrow represents the strength of a force.
What do unbalanced forces result in?
Movement (acceleration/deceleration)
Balanced forces result in…
No movement or movement at a constant speed
