Forces And Stresses Flashcards
What is a static load?
A static load does not move and will exert far less stress than a dynamic load.
What is Tensile strength?
Tensile strength is the ability of material to resist tearing or breaking.
What is the formula for a force?
Mass X Acceleration
What is torsion?
Tortion is simply twisting a material
What is Bending?
Stifness is the ability of a material to resist being bent out of shape.
What is shearing?
A shear force occurs when opposite forces act on an object in a direction perpendicular to it’s strength.
What is compression?
Compression describes the forces which try to squash or push things together, as if in a rugby scrum. Compression is measured in Newtons and is opposite to Tension.
