what is the relationship between momentum, mass and velocity?
momentum (kgm/s)= mass (kg) x velocity (m/s)
how is momentum useful for safety features?
to reduce the force experienced by the passenger you need to extend the time for a passenger to stop in a collision
what is the law of conservation of momentum?
momentum before the collision = momentum after the collision
what is the relationship between force, change in momentum and time taken?
Force (N) = change in momentum (kgm/s) / time (s)
what is Newtons 3rd law?
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
what is the relationship between the moment of a force and its perpendicular distance from the pivot?
moment = force x perpendicular distance from the pivot
where does the weight of a body act?
through its centre of gravity
what is the principle of moments?
when the clockwise moments are equal to the anticlockwise moments a body will be in equilibrium
