Energy Resources and Transfer - Work and Power Flashcards
what is the relationship between work done, force and distance moved?
Work Done (J) = Force (N) x distance moved (m)
what is work done equal to?
work done = energy transferred
what is the relationship between gravitational potential energy, mass, gravitational field strength and height?
Gravitational potential energy (J) = Mass (kg) x gravitational field strength (N/kg) x height (m)
what is the relationship between kinetic energy, mass and velocity?
Kinetic energy (J) = 0.5 x mass (kg) x (velocity (m/s)^2)
how does conservation of energy link gravitational potential energy and kinetic energy?
because energy is conserved the decrease in GPE is equal to the increase in KE (for a falling object if no energy is lost to the surroundings)
what is power?
power is the rate of transfer of energy, or the rate of work done
what is the relationship between power, work done (energy transferred) and time taken?
power = work done/time taken
