Forces And Motion Flashcards
The force on multiple objects stays equal no matter
how much extra mass is added to one of them - any two objects will have the same gravitational force towards each other
Inertia is
the tendency of mass to maintain its state of motion
Cause
(The force)
Effect
(The acceleration)
The force that attracts the moon to the earth is….
exactly the same size as the force that attracts the earth to the moon
As the earth has a greater mass it has a greater inertia
so even with the same amount of force on it, it doesn’t accelerate that much
Forces are
Between two things
Forces come
In pairs
Like charges….
Repel
Opposite charges….
Attract
To make a force you need….
Both sides
Every object has a force but….
a force occurs between 2 things
Forces are interactions….
between two things, equally
Action and reaction means….
Force and reforce
Surfaces can only exert a force….
Upwards
Normal force is not
An ordinary force, an action-reaction force pair
Friction is not a….
Fundamental force
You can represent adding forces with….
Arrow
A vector is….
any quantity that has a direction
An example of a vector
Force
When forces are balanced there is no
Acceleration
If force increases….
Acceleration increases
If you double the force
You double acceleration
Normal force is a….
Relative force / Consequence of Newton’s third law
If you double mass
You half the acceleration
If velocity doubles
Momentum doubles
Net force is
The overall force acting on an object
Resultant force
A number of forces on an object, all added together. A single force which has the same effect of all the forces acting together
