Forces Flashcards
A push or pull one body exerts on another.
Force.
An object moving keeps moving at the velocity, an object at rest stays at rest unless acted upon by a net force.
Newton’s First Law.
The tendency of an object to resist any change in motion.
Inertia.
Combination of all forces that act on an object.
Net Force.
Every object exerts a force on every other object, felt as a pull.
Gravity.
Amount of “stuff” or matter an object has. Measured in kilograms.
Mass.
Measure force of gravity on your mass.
Weight.
Net force acting on an object causes the object to accelerate in a relation to the size of the force and mass of the object. (F=MA)
Newton’s Second Law of Motion
Opposes motion between two surfaces that are touching each other.
Friction.
Resists getting an object moving. (happens when objects aren’t moving)
Static Friction.
Resists keeping an object moving. (happens while moving)
Kinetic Friction.
To every action there is an equal (in size) and opposite (in direction) reaction force.
Newton’s Third Law of Motion.
Anything thrown or shot into the air.
Projectile.
Force acting toward the center of a curved path.
Centripetal.
Mass of the move.
Momentum.
