Forces Flashcards
Contact Force
When an object comes in contact with another object. For example:
Brushing your hair
Hitting a golf ball
Non-contact Force
When the motion and/or shape of an object can be changed without touching them with anything. For example:
Dropping a pen
Gravity
The force of Gravity pulls down . Gravity is a non-contact force.
Force
A push or pull in a certain direction. For example:
Riding a bike (pushing down on the pedals)
Opening a door (pushing or pulling the handle)
Using a keyboard (pushing down on the keys)
Permanent Magnets
Magnets that retain their magnetism when removed from other magnets
Temporary Magnets
Magnets that loose their magnetism when removed from other magnets
Repulsion
An opposing force
Attraction
Physics. the electric or magnetic force that acts between oppositely charged bodies, tending to draw them together.
Magnetic fields
Magnetic fields are the areas where the magnetic force acts
Magnetic Domains
If the domains are lined up facing the same direction, the material has an overall north and south pole. If this is true the object is magnetic
Non magnetic domains
If the domains are not lined up and not facing the same direction, the material dose not have an overall north and south pole. If this is true the object is not magnetic
Electromagnet
A coil of wire around an iron coil. As electricity passes through it makes them a magnet
Domains
Domains are mini magnets that are lined up in rows in side of a magnet that make the magnet magnetised
