Q

Define the term weight

A

Gravitational force exerted on earth (planets). It changes depending on where it is measured. Measured in Newtons

6
Q

Define a force

A

A force is a push or pull exerted by an object. They always act in pairs eg. Gravity causes object to fall, air resistance will slow it down.

7
Q

Name the 2 types of forces and define them

A

Contact forces: acts on point of contact between two objects. Eg friction, tension and compression.

Field forces: act over distances. “Action at a distance” eg gravitation , magnetic and electrostatic.

Measures in newtons

Q

Name the effects that forces have on objects

A

They change the shape of the object
They make a stationary object move
Make moving object stop
Change speed of a moving object
Change direction in which object is moving
Have no visible effect at all / no effect

9
Q

Define gravity

A

Gravity is a field force.
It is the force of attraction between two bodies/objects due to their messes. The bigger the masses, the stronger the gravitational force.
