Forces Flashcards
What is the force of gravity on earth
9.8 m/s
What is the triangle which helps you with the formulas
F
M. G
Write the formula for finding the mass
M= f
g
Define the term weight
Gravitational force exerted on earth (planets). It changes depending on where it is measured. Measured in Newtons
Define the term mass
Amount of matter in an object. Will remain constant wherever it is measured. Measured in kg
Define a force
A force is a push or pull exerted by an object. They always act in pairs eg. Gravity causes object to fall, air resistance will slow it down.
Name the 2 types of forces and define them
Contact forces: acts on point of contact between two objects. Eg friction, tension and compression.
Field forces: act over distances. “Action at a distance” eg gravitation , magnetic and electrostatic.
Measures in newtons
Name the effects that forces have on objects
They change the shape of the object
They make a stationary object move
Make moving object stop
Change speed of a moving object
Change direction in which object is moving
Have no visible effect at all / no effect
Define gravity
Gravity is a field force.
It is the force of attraction between two bodies/objects due to their messes. The bigger the masses, the stronger the gravitational force.
Write the formula for converting mass into weight
f=mg
