Forces Flashcards
What are vectors
Vectors have both magnitude (measurements) and direction
What are scalars
Scalars only have magnitude (measurements)
Examples of contact forces
Air resistance, tension, normal contact forces
Examples of non-contact forces
Magnetic forces, gravitational forces, electrostatic
What is the equation that links Weight, Mass and the gravitational field strength
Weight (N) = Mass (kg) x Gravitational Field Strength (N/kg)
How do you figure out the resultant force?
Add like forces, take away opposite forces
E..G.
1700 –>
2000 –>
<– 1200
<– 2000
(1700 + 2000) - (1200+2000)
OR
1700 –>
1200 ^
(sqrt) 1700^2 + 1200^2
What equation links , Work done, Distance, Force
Work Done (J) = Force (N) x Distance (s)
What is the equivalate of 1J in Newtons
1J = !N
