Forces Flashcards
Definition of force
Anything that causes an object to move or change its velocity
Frictional force definition
A force that resists the sliding or rolling if one solid object over another
Advantages of friction
Being able to walk
Breaks stopping
Disadvantages of friction
Creates heat, wasting energy
Friction produces wear and tear, reducing product lifespan
Definition of gravitational force
A force that pulls objects with mass towards each other
Weight formula
F=ma
Force=mass×weight
Newton’s 1st law
An object that isnt moving wont move
An object in motion will stay in motion
Newton’s 2nd law
The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the strenght of the force applied to the object
F=m(a)
Newton’s 3rd law
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
Mass to weight formula
W=m(g)
Law of the lever
Weight 1 x Distance 1 = Weight 2 x Distance 2
W1 x D1 = W2 x D2
Lever
Any rigid body that is free to move about a fixed point
