force, motion and energy Flashcards
define force
a force is a push or pull upon on object resulting from the objects interaction with another object.
define motion
change with time of the position or orientation of a bodymotion is the phenomenon in which an object changes its position with respect to time.
define acceleration
acceleration is a vector quantity that is defined as the rate at which an object changes its velocity. An object is accelerating if it is changing its velocity.
true or false: the speed of an object depends on the direction it’s traveling ?
false
what is the velocity of an object?
the speed and direction the object is moving.
what is the equation of acceleration?
A = final velocity - initial velocity / time
or
A = v - u / t
that is the formula to calculate distance?
speed x time
what is the formula to calculate time?
distance / speed
what is the speed formula?
distance / time
what is newton’s first law of motion?
the inertia theory; all objects will remain moving in the same direction at the same speed unless acted upon by an external force.
what is newtons 2nd law of motion?
f=ma theory; the heavy the mass of an object the more force will be needed to accelerate.
what is newtons 3rd law of motion?
every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
