Force and Video Motion Flashcards
What is the difference between kinematics and kinetics?
KineMatics relates to movement (linear and angular)
Kinetics relates to FORCE- linear and angular
What is the difference between scalar and vector quantities?
SCALAR- magnitude- on a scale
eg: mass
VECTOR- magnitude and a direction
eg: weight
How do you calculate displacement?
final poisiton- initial position (m)
How do you calculate velocity?
D
change in displacement/ time (m/s)
How do you calculate acceleration?
V
change in velocity/ time (m/s2)
Define inertia?
The reluctance of a body to change it’s state of motion
Define mass (kg) ?
The quantity of matter- a measure of inertia
How do you calculate momentum?
mass x velocity
Newtons 1ST LAW?
An object will remain at rest/ at a constant momentum unless acted on by an external/ unbalanced force
Newtons 2ND LAW?
The rate of change in momentum is proportional to the force applied and acts in the same direction
Newtons 3RD LAW?
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
GRF- ground reaction force
The reaction force applied from the ground to the body
Define weight (N)?
The force due to gravity
mass x acceleration due to gravity
Gravity= 9.81 m/s2
Weight= mass x 9.81m/s2 (N)
What are the main notations in equations of motion?
SUVAT
s: displacement
u: initial velocity
v: final velocity
a: acceleration
t: time
What are the four main equations of motion?
v= u+ at
v2= u2 + 2as
s= 1/2 (u+v) t
s=ut + 1/2 at2
Define moment?
An expression involving the product of distance and a physical quantity
moment= FORCE X PERPENDICULAR DISTANCE
