Foot Muscles Flashcards
layers of the foot and what muscles are in each
layer 1: abductor hallucis, flexor digitorum brevis, abductor digiti minimi
layer 2: Quadratus Plantae, Lumbricals
layer 3: flexor hallucis brevis, adductor hallucis, flexor digiti minimi brevis
layer 4: plantar interossei, dorsal interossei
Abductor Hallucis
O: medial tubercle of the tuberosity of calcaneus, plantar aponeurosis, and flexor retinaculum
I: medial side of base of proximal phalanx of the first digit
N: medial plantar nerve
A: abducts and flexes first digit
Flexor Digitorum Brevis
O: medial tubercle of tuberosty of calcaneus, plantar aponeurosis, and intermuscular septa
I: both sides of middle phalanges of lateral four digits
N: medial plantar nerve
A: flexes lateral four digits
Abductor Digiti Minimi
O: medial and lateral tubercles of tuberosity of calcaneus, plantar aponeurosis, and intermuscular septa
I: lateral side of base of proximal phalanx of the fifth digit
N: lateral plantar nerve
A:
Quadratus Plantae
O: medial surface and lateral margin of plantar surface of calcaneus
I: posterolateral margin of tendon of flexor digitorum longus
N: lateral plantar nerve
A: assists flexor digitorum longus in flexing lateral four digits
Lumbricals
O: tendons of flexor digitorum longus
I: medial aspect of expansion over lateral four digits
N: medial 1: medial plantar nerve
lateral 3: lateral plantar nerve
A: flex proximal phalanges, extend middle and distal phalanges of lateral four digits
Flexor Hallucis Brevis
O: plantar surfaces of cuboid and lateral cuneiform
I: both sides of base of proximal phalanx of first digit
N: medial plantar nerve
A: flexes proximal phalanx of first digit
Adductor Hallucis
O: oblique head: bases of metatarsals 2-4
transverse head: plantar ligaments of 3rd-5th metatarsophalangeal joints
I: laterl side of base of proximal phalanx of first digit
N: deep branch of lateral plantar nerve
A: adducts first digit, assists in maintaining transverse arch of foot
Flexor Digiti Minimi Brevis
O: base of fifth metatarsal
I: base of proximal phalanx of fifth digit
N: superficial branch of lateral plantar nerve
A: flex proximal phalanx of fifth digit
Plantar Interossei
O: bases and medial sides of metatarsals 3-5
I: medial sides of bases of proximal phalanges of 3-5 digits
N: lateral plantar nerve
A: adduct 3-5 digits and flex metatarsophalangeal joints
Dorsal Interossei
O: adjacent sides of metatarsals 1-5
I: 1st: medial side of proximal phalanx of 2nd digit
2-4: lateral sides of 2nd-4th digits
N: lateral plantar nerve
A: abducts digits 2-4 and flex MTP joints
