What is Food Poisoning?
A
- Illness due to eating/drinking contaminated foods/drinks
- Presence of bacterial, viruses, parasites/chemicals in food or water

- Main: bacterial, viruses, parasites/chemicals,
- Poor food handling/cross contamination
- Common pathogens: campylobacter, salmonella, rotavirus, norovirus

Pathophysiology
A
- Inflammatory and stomach lining damaging toxins produced
- Negative effects on digestive system = food poisoning symptoms

Risk Factors
A
- Poor food handling/storage
- Contaminated water sources
- Eat undercook/raw foods
- Poor immune system (kids/old people)

Signs/symptoms
A
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea
- Abdominal discomfort and pain, headache, generalised ache, and pain

Diagnosis
A
- History and examination
- Stool culture

Management
A
- Hydration, good diet
- Relive symptoms.
- Meds: loperamide
- IV fluids: patient unwell severely
