CAUSES OF FOOD SHORTAGE
A
- DROUGHT - Drought continuous form Somalia to Niger so 2/3 of population is going hungry, children are more malnutritioned
- WIDESPREAD FLOODING - Large-scale flooding (ALL OF JONGLEI SUBMERGED IN 2022) caused by changing rainfall patterns (global warming) affects more than 71% of population, causing 1.4 million malnourished kids
- CONFLICT - Ethno-political wrangling + elitist power struggles leaves destroyed crops, leaving 9 million with food insecurity
- DISPLACEMENT - Result of conflict, leaving 1.5 million IDPs and 730,000 involuntary refugees in neighbouring, food insecure countries
