Q

What happens in the small and large intestines in digestion?

A

In the small intestine, food is absorbed into the bloodstream, an enzyme is used to aid digestion. the pancreas sends pancreatic fluid to the small intestine containing enzymes.
The water goes into the large intestine which absorbs the excess water,
Leaves behind feces which are stores in the rectum until they are removed.

Q

What are the functions and monomers of Carbohydrates and Lipids?

A

Carbohydrates are a fast source of energy
Made of monoscacharides

Lipids are made of Fatty acids and Glycerol
They provide insulation
Fats are a good source of long-term energy, they store energy for a long time.
They make up cell membranes
Excessive amounts are bad for health

Q

How do you maintain an osmotic balance?

A

By managing the water and solute in the body
And Removing metabolic waste

14
Q

What organs are part of the excretory system?

A

Kidneys, Bladder, Ureters, urethra

15
Q

How is urine created?

A

Kidneys contain nephrons, the blood pressure forces fluid from the blood in the glomerulus into the Bowman’s capsule. This produces filtrate.

16
Q

What does filtrate contain?

A

Glucose
Water
Amino Acids
Salts
Urea
Bicarbonate Ions
Medication and vitamins
H+ Ions
