What are cereals?
A
Cultivated grasses (grown on farms), we grow them from seeds- cereal grains

What are breakfast cereals?
A
Cereal grains that have been flaked, shredded or puffed (i.e Rice Krispies grains of rice that have been toasted)

Name some cereals gown in the UK?
A
Barley, rye, oats and wheat

Name the nutritional value of cereal?
A
ONLY provide nutrients is the whole seed (whole grain) is used: iron fat fibre protein (LBV) carbohydrates vitamin e b vitamins

What does processing mean?
A
Changing raw foods to make them edible

Do you process cereals?
A
Yes (i.e wheat can be processed into flour)

How should you store cereals?
A
- In dry places to keep moisture out
- Stored in sealed containers (to keep fresh)
- Do not combine older cereals with fresher cereals
- Be aware of use-by dates

How do you know if a cereal is contaminated?
A
Bacteria can cause cereals to go stale, mould, lose flavour and develop odours.

Are cereals sources of energy?
A
yes
