Food Flashcards
Why do we need water?
- transport blood
- reaction medium
- as a slovent
Why do we need food?
- for energy
- for growth and repair
What minerals are present in food in large quantities?
carbon , hydrogen , nitrogen , oxygen ,phosphorus and sulfur
What minerals are found in food in small quantities?
magnesium, calcium, chlorine , potassium and sodium are found in dissolved salts
What minerals are found in food in trace amounts?
copper iron zinc are needed in tiny amounts
What are biomolecules?
chemicals that are made inside living things
What are simple bimolecular units?
elements in different ratios from biomolecules in food
What are the 4 biomolecules in food?
- lipids
- proteins
- carbohydrates
- vitamins

What is used as a control in food experiments?
water
What do you do in the food experiments if food is solid?
add water and grind with pestle and mortar.
What do you do if testing starch (precaution)
prepare starch on the day as bacteria will grow if left overnight/ overtime
