follicular, luteal, menstrual, ovulation Flashcards
menstruation
an egg isn’t fertilized, levels of hormones of estrogen and progesterone drop, the endocrine is no longer needed and sheds through the vagina
follicular
body releases the hormone FSH which stimulates the ovaries to produce 5-20 follicles. The healthiest egg will mature and the rest of the follicles are reabsorbed into the body. The maturing of the follicle sets off more estrogen which thickens the lining of the uterus
ovulation
rising estrogen levels trigger the releases of more LH, which starts ovulation. The ovary relates a mature egg which travels down the fallopian tube towards the uterus to be fertilized by the sperm
luteal
after the follicle releases the egg, it changes into the corpus luteum. if you are pregnant the body produces hCG, if you are not pregnant, the corpus luteum will shrink and be reabsorbed
