Fluvioglacial landforms. Flashcards
1
Q
Esker.
A
- Established glacier.
- Channel of meltwater beneath the glacier.
- Sediment is carried by the stream.
- End of the stream it is blocked by the sediment/ice.
- Sediment is deposited in a line formation.
- Once the glacier is gone left with a ridge of deposited material.
2
Q
Kettle holds and infilled kettle holes.
A
- Meltwater during ablation from the glacier.
- Carries chunks of ice.
- Meltwater loses velocity.
- Sediment is deposited around the chunks of ice.
- Once the chunks of ice melt, sediment disappears and left with a kettle hole.
- Infilled: sediment and vegetation fill the kettle hole.
3
Q
Outwash plain.
A
- Deposited material where meltwater has covered.
* Layers of sediment.
